The Royal Canal Greenway - 2022 European Cycle route of the year
There are a number of traffic-free Cycle trails across the country called Greenways. These traffic free routes are ideal for families and young cyclists. Mostly consisting of fine gravel or tarmac. A number of them run parallel with the canals or old rail trails so tend to be very flat. The following are a list of the longer Greenways.
Royal Canal - The Royal Canal is a 144km trail running from Dublin City to Clondra in Co Longford. This 200 year old route takes in some of Irelands hidden gems and is a true snap from the past. The Great Western Greenway - This 45km route follows part of the famous wide Atlantic way route between Westport and Achill Island on an old rail trail. The Old Rail Trail - The trail is a typical route through the heart of the Irish Midlands with rich fertile farmland, away from the hustle of towns.Frm Mullingar you have the option of riding the round trip of 23km to Castletown, 55km to Moate or the full round trip to Athlone 80km. The Great Southern Greenway - The Great Southern Greenway Limerick is a 39km walking and cycling off-road route running along the old railway line connecting the towns of Rathkeale, Newcastle West and Abbeyfeale. Please Contact us for tour guides and bike hire
